Can Dogs Eat Pumpkin?

Growing up, my parents' dogs were forever gnawing at our jack-o-lanterns, which would send my siblings and me into a full-on meltdown. I'm not sure if my parents ever looked into it (although I hope so), but I got to wondering whether pumpkin is actually safe for dogs to eat. Turns out, it is! In fact, you can even add canned pumpkin (the unspiced kind) to your dog's food to help with digestion "issues."

I'd suggest talking to your vet first just to be sure about what and how much, exactly, you'd be feeding your pet. And be warned, too much pumpkin can cause diarrhea in dogs. (Eew.)

Hi Molly, One of my girlfriends lives in California, but is flying back to our hometown in Maryland for Christmas. She is thinking of flying with her dog. Do you know of any good tips for flying with dogs? Are any airlines more pet-friendly than others? xoxo DPF
thanks again for your message and linking to us, I love your blog! Oh and yes, too much pumpkin can cause diarrhea, but not everyone knows so it's really good to mention it. It helps with digestion though and some of our clients have said that if their dog has a tummy ache it seems to help a little.
sweet potatoes are really good for dogs too, we make doggie treats with them (mixed with carrots), they love them..I guess it's because they are naturally sweet.
Cheers! :)
